Making Persian rugs has been a tradition that Iranian people have participated in for generations. They are often the most valued possession of many households. For some households, creating rugs was a source of income that was used to support a family.
Persian rugs are known for their intricate detail, colors, and weave. Many of them receive names from their creators as they require so much time and effort to create, and a pseudo bond is created. Handcrafted pieces are one of a kind, depending on the location, people use different patterns and weaving techniques which can often be used as an identification tool.
Persian rugs are created in mass today. They share the same appearance; however, they do not have the unique quality that an individually made pieces have. Items that are mass produced are often available for a cheaper price.
